The Yenepoya University has been awarded the “Biotechnology Skill Enhancement Programme (BiSEP)” grant by the Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services (KBITS), Government of Karnataka to conduct a one year “Post Graduate Diploma in Multi-OMICS technology.” Multi-OMICS is a highly interdisciplinary subject which includes genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and proteogenomics. Yenepoya University is one among the 18 institutions in Karnataka that have been selected for this program. Yenepoya University is the only center to offer BiSEP course in Multi-OMICS technology as the institute currently harbors the-state-of-art facilities and the scientists who are experts in cutting-edge technologies to undertake such training program. As part of this diploma course, graduates and post-graduates in the field of life sciences will be equipped with necessary employable skills to make them industry-ready in the field of genomic, proteomic and metabolomic technologies. This course will enable supply of skilled manpower required by multinational biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in their discovery labs, application and marketing. In addition to the OMICs technologies, candidates need to take up industry-oriented elective subjects, which will be taught by the industry experts. Candidates will be selected for the BiSEP – Post graduate Diploma program based on their performance in Karnataka Biotechnology Aptitude Test (KBAT), which will be conducted in the month of September, 2017. Students enrolled in the program will be provided fellowship of INR 10,000 per month during the course. Further, 50% of the tuition fee for students hailing from Karnataka will be paid by the Government of Karnataka. Students will undergo a 6-month hands-on training course in different OMICS platforms at the Center for Systems Biology and Molecular Medicine (CSBMM), Yenepoya University followed by a 6-month internship in a domain relevant industry collaborator. CSBMM has already partnered with several companies including Thermo, SCIEX, Syngene, Apotex, Pfizer, Aurobindo, Dr. Reddy’s, Lupin, ITC, GenEclat Technologies, MIR Lifescience, Bhat Biotech for the industry internship.
